Stucture and Organization

Volkswagen's site is very organized and has a clean interface. The main area, or billboard, of the site is done in flash, but doesn't seem overdone or too complicated. The main navigation, secondary navigation, as well as the sub navigation are all very structured and clean. The site remains uncluttered even though there are many different areas to navigate. This is achieved by using the different navigation areas.

Graphics

The graphics on the Volkswagen site are, for the most part, tight crops of the cars. The clean style of each photo fits perfectly with the overall design of Volkswagen's site. The colors in the graphics also mesh well with the rest of the site.

Color and Typography

Volkswagen is a company that comes off as fun, yet smart. The use of colored photos over a white background seems to give the site the same feel. Had Volkswagen decided to make the background a solid color other than white or some type of background, I doubt you'd get the same feeling.

The Typography also gives the site a nice "hip" feeling to it. The use of sans serif fonts help achieve a "new" feeling, as opposed to "older" serif fonts. The use of color in different areas of the site also help to emphasize the younger feel of the site. Volkswagen used a lot of black text on white background but they also used a little color varation without going overboard with it. The use of varying font sizes and weights also brings a visual hierarchy to the site. You're not bored with the use of all one font size and it almost adds to the fun feeling of the website overall.
